SCRIPTURE

"And it came to pass, when the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing that is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us." — Luke 2:15 (ASV)

The shepherds.—Some, but not the best, manuscripts give, as in the margin, “the men the shepherds,” as if to emphasize the contrast between the “angels” who departed and the “men” who remained.

This thing ... which the Lord hath made known.—Literally, this word, or spoken thing. The choice of the Greek word seems to indicate that St. Luke was translating from the Aramaic.
