Charles Ellicott Commentary
"In your patience ye shall win your souls." — Luke 21:19 (ASV)
In your patience possess you your souls.—Better, By your endurance gain you your lives. The verb, unless used in the perfect tense, always involves the idea of “acquiring” rather than “possessing,” and the command so understood answers to the promise, He that endureth to the end, the same shall be saved, in Matthew 23:13, Mark 13:13. Some of the best MSS., indeed, give this also as a promise, By your endurance you shall gain.
