Charles Ellicott Commentary
"And he said unto them, When I sent you forth without purse, and wallet, and shoes, lacked ye anything? And they said, Nothing." — Luke 22:35 (ASV)
When I sent you without purse, and scrip.—The words refer specifically to the command given to the disciples in Luke 10:4; Matthew 10:9–10. The whole incident is peculiar to St. Luke. The appeal to their past experience is interesting as it shows that on their first mission they were welcomed by those who heard them, and received food and shelter that met all their needs.
