"And it was told him, Thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to see thee." — Luke 8:20 (ASV)

It was told him by certain which said, . . .—Better, more simply, it was told Him. Looking to the greater fullness of St. Mark’s report, we may, perhaps, infer that this was one of the facts which St. Luke learned from St. Mark when they met at Rome. (See Introduction.)
