"And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens rent asunder, and the Spirit as a dove descending upon him:" — Mark 1:10 (ASV)

He saw the heavens opened.—Better, as in the margin, rent open, Saint Mark’s language here, as elsewhere, being more boldly vivid than that of the other Gospels. (See Notes on Matthew 3:16-17.)
