"But take ye heed to yourselves: for they shall deliver you up to councils; and in synagogues shall ye be beaten; and before governors and kings shall ye stand for my sake, for a testimony unto them." — Mark 13:9 (ASV)

But take heed to yourselves.—The emphatic repetition of the warning is peculiar to Saint Mark . The description of the sufferings of the disciples (Mark 13:9–13) is found in Luke 21:12 and in Matthew 10:17-22 (see notes on this passage), but not in Saint Matthew’s report of this discourse.
