"And he that was sown upon the rocky places, this is he that heareth the word, and straightway with joy receiveth it;" — Matthew 13:20 (ASV)

Anon with joy receiveth it — The second type of person stands in marked contrast with the first. This person is marked by rapid change, strong emotion, and a quicker display of conversion than in cases where it is more genuine. It is hardly necessary to say that such outcomes are observed by every earnest preacher. These results are likely to be frequent in proportion to the tendency of any system to cause excitement—such as the revivalist meetings of one school or the mission services of another.
