SCRIPTURE

"And he answered and said, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man;" — Matthew 13:37 (ASV)

The one who sows the good seed is the Son of Man. Primarily, we must remember that the parable refers to the kingdom of heaven—that is, to the new order of things which Christ came to establish, and which is fittingly described as the Church that acknowledges Him as its Lord. It therefore offers an explanation for the presence of evil within that Church. It addresses the wider problem of the origin of evil in the world at large only by inference and analogy.

However, that analogy is not likely to mislead us. If the Son of Man has been the Light that lighteth every man (John 1:9), then He has also been a sower of the good seed in the wider region of the world from the beginning. Consequently, all who pursued righteousness have also been children of the kingdom.
