"and they besought him that they might only touch the border of his garment: and as many as touched were made whole." — Matthew 14:36 (ASV)

That they might only touch the hem of his garment—This widespread belief was the natural result of the miracle already recorded in Matthew 9:20-22. Since their touch implied the faith that was the condition of receptivity, it was effective now, just as it had been before.
