"Then understood the disciples that he spake unto them of John the Baptist." — Matthew 17:13 (ASV)

Then the disciples understood — These words are suggestive, indicating both the conclusion at which they ultimately arrived and the frankness with which they admitted how slowly they had moved from the literalism of the scribes to a true understanding of the spiritual meaning of the prophecy in question.
