"And Jesus, being moved with compassion, touched their eyes; and straightway they received their sight, and followed him." — Matthew 20:34 (ASV)
So Jesus had compassion —Literally, and Jesus. It was not His purpose to meet the popular demand for signs and wonders, but compassion drew from Him the work of power which He otherwise would have been reluctant to perform here. And then the two followed Him, glorifying God.
In Saint Luke’s narrative, the incident is followed by the story of Zacchaeus and the parable of the Pounds. Possibly (see Note on Matthew 20:30), they preceded it.
