SCRIPTURE

"And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive." — Matthew 21:22 (ASV)

All things, whatever you ask in prayer — Here again, the implied condition is that what is asked is in harmony with the laws and will of God . If it were not so, it would not be asked in faith, and every true prayer involves submitting what is asked to the divine judgment.

These words suggest a thought that finds its full expression in John 11:42: our Lord’s miracles were performed less frequently by an inherent, supernatural “virtue” than by power received from the Father in answer to His own prayers. This inherent “virtue,” however, also distinctly appears—for example, in the history of the woman with the issue of blood (Luke 8:46).
