Charles Ellicott Commentary Matthew 21:39

"And they took him, and cast him forth out of the vineyard, and killed him." — Matthew 21:39 (ASV)

Cast him out of the vineyard — The minor details of a parable are not always to be insisted upon in its interpretation. However, we can hardly help seeing a latent reference here to two facts:

1. Our Lord was delivered over to the judgment of the Gentiles.
2. He was crucified outside the Holy City (John 19:20; Hebrews 13:12), which was, in a special sense, the vineyard of the Lord of Hosts.
