Charles Ellicott Commentary

Charles Ellicott Commentary
"and let him that is in the field not return back to take his cloak." — Matthew 24:18 (ASV)
To take his clothes — It is better translated in the singular as his cloak. The man would be working in the field with the short tunic of the laboring peasant, leaving the flowing outer garment at home in the city. Here also the flight was to be rapid and immediate.
