Charles Ellicott Commentary
"And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it unto one of these my brethren, [even] these least, ye did it unto me." — Matthew 25:40 (ASV)
Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren — These words are true for every member of the human family, with different degrees of intensity depending on how consciously the relationship is recognized. It is true of all people that He, the Lord, who took on their flesh and blood, is not ashamed to call them brethren (Hebrews 2:11). Here we have, in its highest and most divine form, that expression of sympathy which we admire even in someone with passions like our own. We find that He too “counts nothing human alien from Himself.”
