"And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are going out." — Matthew 25:8 (ASV)

Our lamps are gone out — It is better translated, as noted in the margin of some Bibles, are going out. They were not yet completely extinguished; the wick was still smoking.
