"Peter saith unto him, Even if I must die with thee, [yet] will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples." — Matthew 26:35 (ASV)

Though I should die with thee — Though foremost in announcing this resolve, Peter was not alone in it. Thomas had spoken similar words before (John 11:16), and all of them felt as if they were prepared to face death for their Master’s sake. To them He had been not only “righteous,” but “good” and kind, and therefore for Him they even dared to die .
