"And when he was accused by the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing." — Matthew 27:12 (ASV)
He answered nothing — Here, as before in Matthew 26:63, we must realize the contrast between the vehement clamor of the accusers, the calm, imperturbable, patient silence of the accused, and the wonder of the judge at what was so different from anything that had previously come within the range of his experience.
