"But the eleven disciples went into Galilee, unto the mountain where Jesus had appointed them." — Matthew 28:16 (ASV)
Then the eleven disciples — For a reason we can no longer discover, the writer passes over all the intermediate appearances and moves on at once to what connected with the mission and work of the Apostles and, through them, of the universal Church.
Into a mountain — Better, to the mountain. The words imply a more definite announcement than the one in Matthew 28:7 and 10, and therefore probably point to an intermediate meeting. We can think of the mountain as one that had been the scene of former meetings between the Master and His disciples. They had seen Him there before, in the body of His humiliation. They were now to see Him in the body of His glory .
