SCRIPTURE

"And when Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel." — Matthew 8:10 (ASV)

He marveled — The fact is stated in both records and is significant in its bearing on the reality of our Lord’s human consciousness. In that true humanity, facts came to Him as they do to other people: unexpectedly, and with a newness that caused surprise.

I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel. The nature of this faith we have already seen. Israelites who sought our Lord’s healing work craved His presence or touch, even if it was only the hem of His garment. In the case of the blind, mute, and deaf, they sometimes sought even more tangible signs. Here was a man who believed in the power of Christ’s word and asked for nothing more.
