Charles Ellicott Commentary Matthew 8:7

"And he saith unto him, I will come and heal him." — Matthew 8:7 (ASV)

I will come and heal him — In St. Luke’s report, these words are omitted, but they are implied in our Lord’s act of going with the elders of the synagogue. While He went, someone, it would seem, ran on ahead to tell the centurion that his prayer was heard. Then, in his humility, he sends some of his friends with the message, which St. Matthew records as if it had come from his own lips.
