Charles Ellicott Commentary Matthew 9:34

"But the Pharisees said, By the prince of the demons casteth he out demons." — Matthew 9:34 (ASV)

Through the prince of the devils — In Matthew 12:24-30, this charge reappears with the addition of the name “Beelzebub” as the prince of the devils. This accusation, together with our Lord’s answer to it, will be discussed more fully in the notes on those verses.

Here, it is enough to note the connection with Matthew 10:25, which shows that the accusation had been made before the mission of the Twelve, an event related in the following chapter.
