"But they and our fathers dealt proudly and hardened their neck, and hearkened not to thy commandments," — Nehemiah 9:16 (ASV)

Dealt proudly. —Like the Egyptians themselves (Nehemiah 9:10). It is remarkable that the same word is used as in the Hebrew of Exodus 18:11 and Deuteronomy 1:43.
