Charles Ellicott Commentary
"then ye shall drive out all the inhabitants of the land from before you, and destroy all their figured [stones], and destroy all their molten images, and demolish all their high places:" — Numbers 33:52 (ASV)
And destroy all their pictures.— The word which is here rendered pictures denotes “imagery,” or “engraved figures.” In Leviticus 26:1 the material named is stone—a stone of imagery, that is, a stone which has been formed into an idol. (Compare to Exodus 34:13, where, however, a different word is used for images.)
All their high places.— Hebrew, bamoth. The reference here is probably to the altars which were frequently erected on the high places. (Compare to Numbers 22:41, where Balaam is brought by Balak up into the high places of Baal.)
