Charles Ellicott Commentary Proverbs 24:16

"For a righteous man falleth seven times, and riseth up again; But the wicked are overthrown by calamity." — Proverbs 24:16 (ASV)

For a just man falleth seven times and riseth up again. —That is, falls into trouble (not sin, as is often supposed). Therefore your malice will be of no avail, for God’s protection is around him. (Psalms 34:19; Psalms 37:24.)

Seven times — i.e., frequently. (Compare to Matthew 18:21.)
