Charles Ellicott Commentary Proverbs 29:15

"The rod and reproof give wisdom; But a child left to himself causeth shame to his mother." — Proverbs 29:15 (ASV)

A child left to himself. — Allowed to wander unchecked as the wild ass (Job 39:5).

Bringeth his mother to shame. — Whose foolish indulgence has ruined him.
