"But if he be found, he shall restore sevenfold; He shall give all the substance of his house." — Proverbs 6:31 (ASV)

But if he be found, he shall restore sevenfold. —Rather, And if he is found, he may restore sevenfold, he may give up all the wealth of his house. The law only required a twofold, fourfold, or fivefold compensation (Exodus 22:0); he may do even more. “Sevenfold” signifies full restitution (Leviticus 26:28).
