SCRIPTURE

"He will judge among the nations, He will fill [the places] with dead bodies; He will strike through the head in many countries." — Psalms 110:6 (ASV)

He shall judge. —Compare to Psalm 9:8 and following.

He shall fill. —The construction is peculiar, and in the Hebrew for heathen and corpses there is a play on words. A slight change in the vowel pointing gives a better construction than is obtained by supplying a word (as the Authorised Version and critics generally do): He judges among the heathen fullness of corpses. At first, the poet intended to write, “He judges among the heathen fullness of judgment” , but, for the sake of the play on the sound, changed his words to “fullness of corpses.”

He shall wound the heads. —Literally, crushes a head over a vast land, where “head” means, as in Judges 7:16, 20, a band or host of men. The picture is of a vast battlefield with heaps of slain. Others understand “head” here to mean “the chief or master of a wide land” (compare to Habakkuk 3:14, head of his villages).
