"Search me, O God, and know my heart: Try me, and know my thoughts;" — Psalms 139:23 (ASV)

Search. —The same word with which the psalm opens. The inevitable scrutiny of the Divine Being is invited.

Thoughts. —As in Psalm 94:19; a word meaning (Ezekiel 31:5) branches, and so expressing the ramifications of thought.
