"Make me to hear joy and gladness, That the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice." — Psalms 51:8 (ASV)

The bones which you have broken ... — Through his whole being the psalmist has felt the crushing weight of sin; to its very fibres, as we say, his frame has suffered.
