Charles Ellicott Commentary

Charles Ellicott Commentary
"Wickedness is in the midst thereof: Oppression and guile depart not from its streets." — Psalms 55:11 (ASV)
Deceit. —Rather, oppression, or violence.
Streets. —Rather, squares, the open space at the gate of an Eastern city where public business was conducted. It is a miserable picture of misgovernment; in the very seat of justice is nothing but oppression and guile.
