Charles Ellicott Commentary

Charles Ellicott Commentary
"Arise, O God, plead thine own cause: Remember how the foolish man reproacheth thee all the day. Forget not the voice of thine adversaries: The tumult of those that rise up against thee ascendeth continually." — Psalms 74:22-23 (ASV)
These verses show that the psalm was actually composed amid the dark days it describes. It ends in expostulatory prayer, with still no brighter gleam of hope than prayer itself implies—and that when seemingly directed to deaf ears.
