"He would feed them also with the finest of the wheat; And with honey out of the rock would I satisfy thee." — Psalms 81:16 (ASV)
Finest of the wheat. —See the margin, and compare Psalm 147:14. The construction of this verse is a matter of difficulty. Properly, we should render it: And he fed them with the finest of the wheat, and with honey out of the rock satisfied you. The change of person is harsh; although it may perhaps be illustrated by Psalm 22:27 and following, the past tense seems out of keeping with the context. The conclusions of Psalm 77 and Psalm 78 are hardly analogous. The pointing should be slightly changed to yield the reading: And I would feed them also, and so on.
