"His cheeks are as a bed of spices, [As] banks of sweet herbs: His lips are [as] lilies, dropping liquid myrrh." — Song Of Solomon 5:13 (ASV)
His cheeks are as a bed of spices — Probably with allusion to the perfumed beard (marginal note: towers of perfumes), as in Psalms 133:2.
Lilies. — Compare “He pressed the blossom of his lips to mine” (Tennyson, Enone).
