SCRIPTURE

"And they that are far off shall come and build in the temple of Jehovah; and ye shall know that Jehovah of hosts hath sent me unto you. And [this] shall come to pass, if ye will diligently obey the voice of Jehovah your God." — Zechariah 6:15 (ASV)

And those who are far off — This refers not only to the Jews of the Dispersion but also to non-Jews (Zechariah 2:11).

And build in — that is, work at building, as in Psalms 128:1. With regard to the fulfilment, see the notes on the passages cited.

And this shall come to pass. — A better rendering is, And it shall come to pass, if our God. This must not be regarded as an abrupt aposiopesis, because the hearers could never have filled in the gap for themselves.

Nor is the rendering of the English Version (although it has the support of Rashi and Kimchi) admissible. It only remains, therefore, to suppose that the remainder of the passage has been lost, though there is no tradition to that effect, as there is in several other instances.
