SCRIPTURE

"For [there shall be] the seed of peace; the vine shall give its fruit, and the ground shall give its increase, and the heavens shall give their dew; and I will cause the remnant of this people to inherit all these things." — Zechariah 8:12 (ASV)

For the seed ... prosperous. — Compare the Syriac, for the seed shall be peace. Better, as in the margin, For the seed of peace — namely, “the vine,” which is so called because it can flourish only in times of peace, so that to sit under the vine and under the fig tree is a common figure to denote the enjoyment of peace and prosperity. For the word “seed” applied to the vine, compare Jeremiah 2:21.

Compare 1 Maccabees 14:8: Then did they till their ground in peace, and the earth gave her increase, and the trees of the field their fruit.
