SCRIPTURE

"No man hath beheld God at any time: if we love one another, God abideth in us, and his love is perfected in us: hereby we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit. And we have beheld and bear witness that the Father hath sent the Son [to be] the Saviour of the world." — 1 John 4:12-14 (ASV)

No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us. Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit. And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.

John could testify as an eyewitness to the sufferings and death of Christ, for he stood at the foot of the cross and saw the Savior die, and he had previously laid his head upon his Master's breast. He knew that Christ was real flesh and blood, and he knew that Christ really died, so he could truly say, We have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.
