Charles Spurgeon Commentary

Charles Spurgeon Commentary
"And they took the bullock which was given them, and they dressed it, and called on the name of Baal from morning even until noon, saying, O Baal, hear us. But there was no voice, nor any that answered. And they leaped about the altar which was made." — 1 Kings 18:26 (ASV)
Saying, O Baal, hear us.
Repeating their cry again and again. For this is the way of all false worship – to use vain repetitions, as the heathens do, which is forbidden to us.
But there was no voice, nor any that answered. And they leaped upon the altar which was made.
This was their superstition. They were going through the whole performance of the genuflections of some kind or another.
They leaped upon the altar which was made.
