Charles Spurgeon Commentary

Charles Spurgeon Commentary
"knowing that ye were redeemed, not with corruptible things, with silver or gold, from your vain manner of life handed down from your fathers; but with precious blood, as of a lamb without spot, [even the blood] of Christ: who was foreknown indeed before the foundation of the world, but was manifested at the end of times for your sake, who through him are believers in God, that raised him from the dead, and gave him glory; so that your faith and hope might be in God." — 1 Peter 1:18-21 (ASV)
Since you know that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: He indeed was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for you, who through him believe in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope might be in God.
Jesus Christ rose from the dead, and this is our joy today. This is one of the facts, proven beyond all question: that Jesus Christ, who died on the cross and was buried in Joseph's tomb, did actually rise again. This is the cornerstone of the Christian faith; one of the great facts on which we build our confidence for salvation through Jesus Christ.
