Charles Spurgeon Commentary

Charles Spurgeon Commentary
"For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that one died for all, therefore all died; and he died for all, that they that live should no longer live unto themselves, but unto him who for their sakes died and rose again." — 2 Corinthians 5:14-15 (ASV)
For the love of Christ constraineth us, because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: and that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.
The true-hearted Christian judges himself to have died when Christ died, and, from that time forward, he feels that he must not live for any object but the glory of Christ.
For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: and that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.
The life of the saved man must never be lived for himself; he is false to his profession if it is so. He must from now on live as earnestly for God as he previously lived for himself in his unregeneracy, for he now has a new life which is not his own, to do with it as he pleases, but it belongs entirely to him who purchased it with his own most precious blood.
