Charles Spurgeon Commentary 2 Corinthians 8:13-14

"For [I say] not [this] that others may be eased [and] ye distressed; but by equality: your abundance [being a supply] at this present time for their want, that their abundance also may become [a supply] for your want; that there may be equality:" — 2 Corinthians 8:13-14 (ASV)

For I mean not that other men be eased, and you burdened: but by an equality, that now at this time your abundance may be a supply for their want, that their abundance also may be a supply for your want; that there may be equality.

Paul would have the rich church at Corinth give to the poor church at Jerusalem because the Corinthians themselves might be in need someday, and then the church at Jerusalem would in turn give to them. This is the law of the kingdom; if God prospers you, help another who is not being prospered just now; and then, one of these days, he also may help you in your time of necessity.
