Charles Spurgeon Commentary

Charles Spurgeon Commentary
"I speak not by way of commandment, but as proving through the earnestness of others the sincerity also of your love. For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might become rich." — 2 Corinthians 8:8-9 (ASV)
But by occasion of the forwardness of others, and to prove the sincerity of your love. For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that you through his poverty might be rich.
What a touching argument! How could he find a better? Help your brothers in Jerusalem who are in need, even though that help should cause you hardship, for you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and what he did, and what he gave that you might be rich.
