Charles Spurgeon Commentary

Charles Spurgeon Commentary
"Now when they heard [this,] they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and the rest of the apostles, Brethren, what shall we do? And Peter [said] unto them, Repent ye, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ unto the remission of your sins; and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For to you is the promise, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, [even] as many as the Lord our God shall call unto him. And with many other words he testified, and exhorted them, saying, Save yourselves from this crooked generation." — Acts 2:37-40 (ASV)
And said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost (Acts 2:37–38).
For the promise is unto you and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation (Acts 2:39–40).
Not, save yourselves; but save yourselves from this untoward generation. Come out from among them. They are guilty of the death of Christ; you will be found guilty of it, too, unless you now disown the people who committed that awful crime. Come right out from among them, and be altogether separated from them.
Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said to Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what should we do? Then Peter said to them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
For the promise is to you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God will call. And with many other words he testified and exhorted, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.
That is to say, "Come out from among the ungodly; leave the world behind, and escape for your lives."
