Charles Spurgeon Commentary Galatians 3:24

"So that the law is become our tutor [to bring us] unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith." — Galatians 3:24 (ASV)

Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

The pedagogue was a slave who led the children to school, and sometimes whipped them to school. That is what the law did with us; it took us under its management, and whipped us, and drove us to Christ.

Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants: the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Hagar.

It is the strength of the flesh which leads to bondage.
