Charles Spurgeon Commentary
"And Abraham said unto his young men, Abide ye here with the ass, and I and the lad will go yonder; and we will worship, and come again to you." — Genesis 22:5 (ASV)
Abraham did not deceive the young men; he believed that he and Isaac would come to them again. He believed that though he might be compelled to slay his son, God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure.
Abraham told the young men to stay where they were, for they must not see all that he was to do before the Lord. Oftentimes, our highest obedience must be a solitary one; friends cannot help us in such emergencies, and it is better for them, and better for us, that they should not be with us.
