SCRIPTURE

"And to his father he sent after this manner: ten asses laden with the good things of Egypt, and ten she-asses laden with grain and bread and provision for his father by the way. So he sent his brethren away, and they departed: and he said unto them, See that ye fall not out by the way." — Genesis 45:23-24 (ASV)

This was a sure sign that Joseph knew his brothers, and they might well recognize him even by that instruction, because their consciences must have told them that it had been their common habit to quarrel, whether with or without reason, and so he instructed them not to do so.
