SCRIPTURE

"And I will visit upon her the days of the Baalim, unto which she burned incense, when she decked herself with her earrings and her jewels, and went after her lovers, and forgat me, saith Jehovah." — Hosea 2:13 (ASV)

And I will visit upon her the days of Baalim, in which she burned incense to them, and she decked herself with her earrings and her jewels, and she went after her lovers, and forgot me, says the LORD.

They burned no incense at Jerusalem; they refused to offer sacrifice there; but they went to this hill and to that, to worship the different images of Baal, and said, "These are our gods." Therefore, God says that he will make them sick of their idolatry. They shall grow tired of thus polluting his holy name, and degrading themselves by worshipping things made of wood and stone.

And I will visit upon her the days of Baalim, wherein she burned incense to them, and she decked herself with her earrings and her jewels, and she went after her lovers, and forgot me, says the LORD.

It is terrible when God comes to visit upon people the days of their sin—when for every night of sin, they will have a night of anguish.

And when for every pleasure they took in sin, they will feel the scourge of conscience until they have endured the full, weary cycle.

She went after her lovers, and forgot me, says the Lord. This was said by him who never forgot her, by him whose love was true and faithful to her when she so went away from him, and defiled herself and dishonored his holy name. Now read the next verse; and be astonished—
