SCRIPTURE

"Thus saith God Jehovah, he that created the heavens, and stretched them forth; he that spread abroad the earth and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein: I, Jehovah, have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thy hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles;" — Isaiah 42:5-6 (ASV)

Thus saith God the LORD, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein: I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles;

See what God has made his Son, Jesus Christ. If you want to get to Christ in the covenant of grace, you have only to lay hold of Christ, for Christ is given as a covenant to the people.

He is the embodiment of the covenant — the sum and substance of it, the seal of it, the surety of it. He is, indeed, the covenant itself.

And if you want light, you have only to come to Christ. He is the light of the world, and here we are told that God has given him for a light to the Gentiles.

Thus saith God the LORD, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein: I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles;

Thus the great God commissions Christ. Thus he declares that the eternal power and Godhead will uphold him until the Gentiles shall perceive his light, and the people shall be brought into covenant with God.
