SCRIPTURE

"I am Jehovah, and there is none else; besides me there is no God. I will gird thee, though thou hast not known me;" — Isaiah 45:5 (ASV)

I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me:

It is a wonderful subject—the providential government of God over princes and potentates who do not know him: how he raised up Cyrus on behalf of his people, so that they might be delivered. And though Cyrus did not know it, yet he was, as it were, an instrument in the hand of God, moved according to the divine will.
