SCRIPTURE

"Woe unto them that rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; that tarry late into the night, till wine inflame them! And the harp and the lute, the tabret and the pipe, and wine, are [in] their feasts; but they regard not the work of Jehovah, neither have they considered the operation of his hands." — Isaiah 5:11-12 (ASV)

The covetous man was intoxicated with greed. Here is a man intoxicated with strong drink. It is never too early, nor too late, for men who are carried away by this passion to drink.

They rise up early; they continue until night; then, when they are inflamed with lust, all sorts of evil pleasures are sought after, and Satan leads them captive at his will. Woe to such!

Now, it was because there were covetous men who were idolaters, and because there were luxuriously living men who were drunkards (who had crept into Jerusalem, lived there, and spread evils among the people); it was for this very reason that God declared He would lay His vineyard waste. Are there no such people in the Church of God today?

Alas! I fear there are professors who do not let it be known openly, but who in secret pursue these things.
